Magnesium: Mechanical Property
The reasons that push toward the use of magnesium for structural
components can be found in the resistance-weight ratio which is the
highest among the commonly used metals and in its excellent
machinability.
Magnesium accessories also have a good dimensional stability. The setting-up of
special alloys, and the use of some essential components has allowed
the improvement of the sliding and of the corrosion resistance,
besides the achievement of high mechanical properties and a good
resistance to high temperatures.
Finally, magnesium has an excellent capacity of vibrational absorption and,
thanks to its low inertia, it is a good choice for those mechanical
parts that are subjected to continuous and sudden changes of
direction at high speed
