From the lucky “wedding” between the unique style of Giorgetto Giugiaro and Bertone in ’65 was born the Giulia GTA (Gran Turismo Alleggerita ). Designed to counteract the cars that excelled in the European Touring Car Championship was entrusted to the expert care of Engineer Chiti.
Chiti said: the lightness above all! Lightened the car by replacing the steel panels with Paraluman alloy panels: a diet for over 200 kg for the new "clothes” of the car. Were eliminated bumpers and internal paneling, were introduced glass made of Plexiglas, stiffer and shorter suspensions to lower the point of rolling; the add of twin-spark ignition for each cylinder and of bigger carburetors gave shape to a real bullet for racing: after the drastic care the 1570 cm³ engine pumped more than 170 horses.
